What are some uncommon habits that contribute to success? This really is an interesting question, because the term “common” is really a subjective concept. What may be common to some may not be common to others. On the other hand, the fact that certain habits are common to successful people and not the general public may be exactly what makes certain habits uncommon.

The reason success is relatively rare and so highly regarded as the standard that we measure one another against in life, at least upon first impression, is because of the fact that it isn’t easy to achieve.

But there are other, more abstract habits that successful people incorporate into their lives and that are more uncommon in the sense that they’re less spoken of and less advertised.

1. Daily appreciation. Regardless of what you think about what you’ve accomplished in your life, and regardless of your relative success, taking just a few minutes a day to appreciate what you do have in your life, what you have accomplished, and where youhope to be going in life is a habit that many successful people do daily. This habit increases the overall happiness of and satisfaction with your life. The happier you are, the more likely you are to have the motivation and desire to continue to improve the outcome of your life.

2. Visualization. Visualization and affirmations are widely used by some of the most successful people on the planet as tools for facilitating one’s growth and success. The act of visualization itself (and affirmations also fit in here) is about taking time to envision where you want to be going in your life, where you’re aiming to be in the near future, and further out into the future. It’s about imagining yourself taking the actions you know are necessary to take you from where you are to where you want to be. The true benefit of visualization and affirmations is that this act helps you believe that you have the ability to actually take those actions by simply imagining yourself taking them.

3. Expression of gratitude to everyone you come across. This is one of those habits that may in fact be uncommon, but in my experience, it definitely contributes to success. Karma may not be a strict law, but at the end of the day, we see in our lives what we want to see. If we choose to express gratitude to anyone and everyone we come across, the simple truth is that you will see beauty everywhere and in every type of person. The result of this positive outlook is that other people appreciate you, want to do their best for you, to be in contact with you, and to be connected with you. When others like you and enjoy you because you express gratitude, appreciation, and love for them, you begin to develop bonds that are indestructible. Those bonds, regardless of who they’re with, will pay off in the form of networking, good employees, positive relationships, happiness, and thus, will contribute to your success.

In the end of the day, actions are important when it comes to success. You need to have the energy and drive necessary to take all the actions that must be taken in order to get where you want to be.
