Why Cloud Deployment Is at a Crossroads- Valutrics

Despite all the talk about the advantages of the cloud, most organizations have only progressed toward migration on a limited or experimental basis, according to a recent survey from Softchoice. The resulting “State of Cloud Readiness Study” indicates that the majority of IT decision-makers struggle to form an effective and formalized cloud strategy. They also lack the needed skills to support cloud initiatives. Meanwhile, organizations are finding it difficult to control cloud-related costs. “Embracing cloud computing marks a turning point in how IT leaders staff their teams, manage spending and collaborate across their organizations,” according to the report. “The ability to cope with all aspects of this shift has proven to be the largest barrier to public cloud success … IT leaders first need to conduct a full assessment of their organizations’ current applications, dependencies and expected service levels. The insight gleaned during this planning phase will inform an organization’s big-picture cloud strategy, outlining steps and considerations for a migration that creates business value and alignment across teams.” The findings also shed revealing insights into the inclination of many line-of-business managers to make IT investments without any involvement from CIOs and the tech department, and we’ve included some of those here. A total of 250 line-of-business managers and 250 IT decision-makers took part in the research.
